We recognize that paying for home care can be challenge, but there are often more options than families realize to overcome this hurdle and get their loved one the support that they need to thrive.
How to pay for in-home care
Unfortunately, Medicare, Medicaid, and most employer associated PPO and HMO plans will only reimburse families for intermittent visits from an RN temporarily and only when your loved one needs help due to a specific medical diagnosis. For the non-medical home care provided by NuevaCare’s professional caregivers, traditional insurance plans are unfortunately not an option for payment.
However, there are in fact lots of other options for financing home care, and families can feel confident in their ability to pay for professional caregiving that will help their loved one to thrive.
Here are just a few of the options that are available to families.
Long term care insurance
Employer sponsored Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
Employer sponsored Flexible Spending Accounts
Employer sponsored benefits like “Back up Care” programs for adult caregivers
State-subsidized home and community based services. Income and age qualifications apply
Workers compensation insurance
Conversion of life insurance to pay for home care
These are just a few of the options that are out there for helping your family to cover the costs of essential home care services. Getting your loved one the support that they need without having to come out of pocket for the bulk of the costs is possible, and NuevaCare is here to help you determine how to make it happen.
Veterans benefits can help pay for home care
Many veterans and their spouses are unaware that they may qualify for benefits that cover home care and other medical costs. In the case of home care, these benefits may cover up to 30 hours or more of care per month.
As a veteran of the U.S. Armed Services, or as a spouse of a Veteran, you may qualify for Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefit that can be used to cover the costs of home care services.
The Veterans Disability Pension applies to those who received an Honorable Discharge after serving at least 90 days during wartime and their spouses who have a non-service related disability which requires aid and attendance by another person. This would include those who served during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, or the Persian Gulf crisis. Certain requirements apply and more information is available by checking with your state’s Department of Veterans Affairs or visiting www.va.gov and searching for Aid and Attendance Benefit.
